Photo for shadow removal

The attached photograph, taken by a friend with an I-phone, is the only picture we could find from a very special one-time occasion which, unfortunately, was spoiled by an obnoxious shadow. Although it was not a high-quality shot to begin with, please let me know if there is a possibility that you can “save” it.

 

I eventually plan to crop it to comprise only the couple on the left as a portrait-format photograph, but have included the whole picture so you have as much “info” to work with as possible. If it will make it easier to work with, feel free to crop it during your endeavors.

 

Eyes closed in picture

I would like to see if you can fix the attached picture. The grand father has his eyes closed and we want to give this picture as a Christmas present, would really appreciate an estimate and of anything can be done.
