The DNA of 800 blue-eyed people was analysed, and all but one had exactly the same DNA sequence in the region of the OCA2 gene. Prof. Hans Eiberg of the University of Copenhagen concluded that probably 10,000 years ago a mutation arose that disrupted melanin production in the iris and caused the eye color to turn blue. The study suggests that the mutation originated in just one person who evidently became the ancestor of all blue-eyed people!!
